In short
- Zaleo apps are free and provided as they are.
- Ummah, Mirath, Daara and Sajda inform; they do not replace a scholar or a notary.
- Courant and Arnaque? show what people report, not official figures.
- What you write on the Ummah wiki is shared under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.
- These terms are governed by Senegalese law.
What you agree to
These terms apply to Zaleo's apps (Daara, Ummah, Sajda, Mirath, Courant, Arnaque?, Suuf, Kàddu), to apps.zaleo.dev and to the Zaleo account at auth.zaleo.dev. By using them, you accept these terms. An app may add its own rules, such as Kàddu's consent for recordings; they apply on top of these. What we do with your data is explained in the privacy policy.
Free services, as they are
The apps are free. They are provided as they are, with no guarantee that they will always be available, error-free, or right for your particular situation. We may change, pause or stop an app; if we stop one, we announce it in advance when we can.
The Zaleo account is optional. You are responsible for what is done with your access: tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used it.
Faith and law: tools for learning
Ummah, Mirath, Daara and Sajda help you learn and look things up. They do not give fatwas or legal advice.
- Ummah shows what the sources say about a hadith or a claim; for a question that commits you, ask a scholar.
- Mirath works out inheritance shares under the rules you choose; for a real estate division, go through a notary or a qadi.
- Daara helps you memorise and recite; feedback on recitation and tajweed does not replace a teacher.
- Sajda calculates prayer times and the qibla; when in doubt, follow your mosque.
Data reported by the community
Courant shows the power and water cuts that residents report; these are not Senelec's or SEN'EAU's figures. Arnaque? gives an estimate based on reports and automatic analysis; "suspicious" is not a court ruling, and a message judged safe can still be a scam.
Suuf reads public sources (satellite images, maps); a Suuf report is not a land registry document or a title deed. Always check with the state services and a notary before you buy.
Acceptable use
When you use the apps, you agree not to:
- make false reports, or report someone to harm them;
- post hate speech, harassment, illegal content, or someone else's personal data;
- pretend to be someone else, or try to get into another person's account;
- scrape the sites with bots outside the public APIs made for that, or get around request, quota or security limits;
- disrupt the servers or probe them for weaknesses without our agreement (to report a vulnerability: [email protected]).
The public APIs (Courant and Arnaque? data, the Kàddu API) have their own request limits; please respect them. We may remove content or block access that breaks these rules.
Your contributions and their licences
You remain the author of what you contribute, and you confirm you have the right to share it. You agree to these licences:
- Ummah: your wiki edits, and later your questions and answers, are published under CC BY-SA 4.0, with your name.
- Courant: your reports, once aggregated, join the open data under CC BY 4.0. Area outlines come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL).
- Arnaque?: masked scam templates and trends are published under CC BY 4.0.
- Kàddu: validated recordings join an open dataset under CC BY 4.0, as its consent says.
For everything else, you only allow us to keep and display your content so the app can work.
Ending your account
You can delete your Zaleo account at any time from auth.zaleo.dev/account. Deletion is permanent. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and explain why when we can. What has already been published under an open licence stays published.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Zaleo is not liable for decisions made on the basis of an app, nor for indirect losses (money, data, opportunity) linked to using the apps or to their being unavailable. Nothing here takes away the rights the law gives you as a consumer.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Senegalese law. If we disagree, write to us first: we will look for an amicable solution. Failing that, the courts of Dakar have jurisdiction, unless a rule in your country that protects you says otherwise.
Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes too, and the change is announced on apps.zaleo.dev. For a significant change, we also email people who have an account. Continuing to use the apps after a change means you accept it.
